How to Setup Email in Gmail (web) – add external IMAP account

Setup Instructions

  1. Log into your Gmail account in a browser.
  2. Click Settings (gear icon) → See all settings → Accounts and Import.
  3. In the Check mail from other accounts section, click Add a mail account.
  4. Enter your-name@example.comNext.
  5. Select Import emails from my other account (POP3)Next.
  6. Enter POP settings (note: Gmail web only supports POP3, not IMAP, for fetching external mail):
  7. - Username: your-name@example.com
  8. - Password: Your Password (magic link below)
  9. - POP Server: imap.example.com (if your provider offers POP on port 995)
  10. - Port: 995, SSL/TLS
  11. - Leave a copy… (optional)
  12. - Label incoming messages: (optional)
  13. - Archive incoming messages (skip inbox): optional
  14. Click Add Account → then choose whether to also send mail as that address (follow SMTP setup).
  15. For sending, Gmail will ask for SMTP smtp.example.com:587, STARTTLS, username your-name@example.com, password Your Password.
