How to Setup Email in
Gmail (web) – add external IMAP account
Follow these step-by-step instructions to configure your standard IMAP/SMTP email account inside Gmail (web) – add external IMAP account. If you want instructions tailored perfectly to your domain name (with the exact servers and ports), please use our generator.
Setup Instructions
- Log into your Gmail account in a browser.
- Click Settings (gear icon) → See all settings → Accounts and Import.
- In the Check mail from other accounts section, click Add a mail account.
- Enter
your-name@example.com→ Next. - Select Import emails from my other account (POP3) → Next.
- Enter POP settings (note: Gmail web only supports POP3, not IMAP, for fetching external mail):

imap.example.com(if your provider offers POP on port 995) - - Port: 995, SSL/TLS
- - Leave a copy… (optional)
- - Label incoming messages: (optional)
- - Archive incoming messages (skip inbox): optional
- Click Add Account → then choose whether to also send mail as that address (follow SMTP setup).
- For sending, Gmail will ask for SMTP
